I played a slightly extended one-tabling session this morning. I seem to be doing okay and I'm now feeling pretty comfortable with the level, so I'll dive into two tables next time. I've only got $236 to lose at this level, which is just a little under what is needed to run two tables at 40 BB, but if I forget to buy in a touch short at one table, it's no big deal.

Today's session went better. I had worked it up as high as $150, but it slipped back down and I'm stuck playing 1-tabling sessions still. This constant 1-tabling is going to keep me from making my goal of 5000 hands.

I have been reduced to one table due to lack of funds in this project. So I'm racking up half as many hands as I want to. I ran pretty flat tonight even though the first table I was at was going completely bonkers. It's too bad I couldn't hit anything because I could easily have been way up. Instead, it's roughly even with 4000 hands to go.

This one was going better than the previous one, but I still need to do a lot of practice with the simultaneous talking, playing, and observing. My brain processes words faster than I can say them, so I find I'm sometimes stumbling around with my words because I have so much going on at once. I think I need to take more time in general with my actions (even if I know precisely what I'm going to do) so that I can say what I want to say and not feel rushed.

I bought in for the $100 remaining in the $2/4 bankroll. I was worried about going busto twice in a row when I was down to $31. Fortunately, I pulled out of it and came back to being ahead $14.50. Not many hands to post this time.

Hand 1: Villain is known to be aggressive, but I didn't know how aggressive he was. The flop donk/call followed by the re-donk/3-bet had me really worried about some strangely played flopped big hand and he just didn't know how to handle it. It turned out he was just bad. You can argue about throwing in a river raise because I now beat Q6/Q7, but given the turn action, I wasn't entirely convinced that this card helped me (he could play a turned flush draw this way, I guess, but wouldn't pay it off unless he had a pair.)

Hand 2: I took a flop peel here because I could be ahead of a flush draw and potentially have as many as 6 outs against a pair smaller than queens. In aggressive games (well... more generally against aggressive players), folding the flop too often is a huge leak. The turn brought me a good draw, but I didn't think a turn raise had enough credibility to make any better hands fold, so I just called and try to pick up something on the river. It didn't happen. With this many broadway on the board, it's hard to have A-high hold up, so it's an easy fold.

Today was up first, then down. I can't seem to keep my focus for more than an hour now, but I guess that's a result of not playing much poker and being out of practice. This is something I'll need to intentionally focus on for a while.

Hand 1: AA cracked. I debated merely calling the check-raise on the turn, but I think I've been playing those spots too softly and missing value. Unfortunately, this time I had the worst of it.

I backed down to one table because I only had $81 to start the day, which isn't enough to run two tables. Fortunately, I ran well and got myself back up a bit. Even though I'm approximately at the right amount to go up to two tables again, I think I'll stick with one for a while longer. I seem to focus better, which is probably what I need now more than anything else.

I ran into another aggrobluffer today. We ended up basically even with each other. This surprised me at first because I thought I was getting the better of him by a lot, but then I realized how many times he hit outs to beat me. He also stole the blinds (OOP) many times from me as I wasn't always picking hand that I could play, plus SB was calling often, making it harder for me to win postflop. I was surprised at how much the table just stayed out of his way and let him take their money. It's things like that which encourage me to be too aggressive sometimes.

Hands 1 and 2: I have trouble folding aces. The first hand is a more reasonable calldown simply because the flop check-raise is much less likely a queen than if there were a turn check-raise. The second hand is one of those spots where I just call down and not like it.

Hand 4: I found this spot to be very interesting. The first raiser has been raising very often and playing very aggressively postflop. The second raiser has 3-bet the first raiser a couple times, but I didn't see any of those hands shown down, so I don't know what he's raising with. So I decided to cap and take it from there. On the turn, I was a bit lost. I'm pretty sure I don't have the best hand. I'm mostly concerned with the 3-bettor's hand being something like AK or 88, which will both call my bet. The first caller could have peeled with all sorts of hands, so his hand range is wider. On the river, I felt I could call a bet from the first raiser (he could put us on overcards and make an aggro-bluff at it), but not overcall (because the second raiser isn't going to call with worse than AQ).

This was a high variance day. I ran into a very aggressive table and came away only ahead a tiny bit. The cards did not cooperate with me so much. I made a couple bad calls, which is disappointing.

Hand 1: I've played with the betting villain before. My notes say that calling down is best because he has a raise/fold style of play. This means that raising will make him fold worse hands, but he will 3-bet better ones (and a few worse ones, but not enough of them).

I'm making two intentional adjustments to my play. The first is that I'm going to overlimp a little more often. The second is that I'm going to play around with open-limping from UTG if the players behind me are loose. I haven't decided how loose I would want them to be, but I'm thinking two 50+ VPIP players would be sufficient. I'm also going to try to be more focused on reviewing my play, which is time consuming, but healthy.

Hand 1: Here's a pretty standard AK hand. The villain who 3-bet preflop was fairly aggro, and I would have just called preflop if it were heads up, hoping to flop an ace or king and be able to squeeze out extra bets on the big streets. However, with the two other players in the pot, I decided that it would be best to play it straight and cap it. Everything after that is standard value betting.

Hand 2: This is a non-standard play against a non-standard villain. He was only at the table for about 5 hands before this one, and he had been playing a strange aggro blind steal/blind defense game. When I paired my ace, I felt that he was most likely folding if I bet (unless he had a pair), but he would most likely bet anything if I checked to him. I should have check-raised the turn. There are enough draws that he could have to force him to call the turn check-raise, and then I don't know what happens on the river. Probably I bet, and he folds. BUSTO! I was fairly sure it was going to happen. I just had that feeling. So it's going to be back down to $1/2 for a while. It's probably going to be good for me to do that. I put my $2/4 bankroll on the line today and nearly doubled it. It was a short 75 hand session, but I don't have much to say about it. The game is easy if you flop the nuts and value bet it the whole way and win. It's also easy when you flop top pair and value bet it the whole way and win.

It was another rough time out, even though the table was good. I just can't pick up cards when I need them. Absolution sweated me and he seemed to think I wasn't totally out of line, so I'm willing to blame variance, too.
