My rate of poker playing has diminished as real life has started to take over. I have two on-site interviews in the next two weeks and I've been working hard on my thesis, so I haven't had much time for poker. I squeezed in a short session today because I wanted to relax a little. This meant that I was probably not paying as close attention to my game as I should.
Hand 1: This was a bad flop bet, but a good river fold. The pot is too small to take a good stab at it. I don't think it's terribly bad, but I don't think it can possibly be neutral. If I had a backdoor flush draw, I would like it more.
Preflop: Hero is CO with Ah, Ts.
UTG calls, MP calls, Hero calls, 2 folds, BB checks.
Flop: (4.50 SB) 2d, Jc, 4s (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Hero bets, BB calls, UTG calls, MP calls.
Turn: (4.25 BB) Ks (4 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Hero checks.
River: (4.25 BB) As (4 players)
BB checks, UTG bets, MP raises, Hero folds, BB folds, UTG calls.
Final Pot: 8.25 BB
Results:
UTG has Qd Ad (one pair, aces).
MP has Qs 7s (flush, ace high).
Hand 2: I almost didn't bet the turn here, and I almost didn't call the river. Villain's flop check felt like AA/AQ/QQ, but when he checked again on the turn, I was starting to think KK was in there. I would have folded to a turn check-raise and lost no sleep over it.
Preflop: Hero is UTG with 8d, Ad.
Hero raises, 4 folds, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.
Flop: (6.50 SB) 5d, Qs, Ah (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks.
Turn: (3.25 BB) 9h (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.
River: (5.25 BB) 2h (2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.
Results:
BB has As Ac (three of a kind, aces).
Hero has 8d Ad (one pair, aces).
Hand 3: Here's an example of not paying attention. I should have folded this river. I only win if villain plays 99/AT like this.
Preflop: Hero is SB with Jc, 9s.
UTG calls, 1 fold, Button calls, Hero completes, BB raises, UTG calls, Button calls, Hero calls.
Flop: (8 SB) Td, Qd, 2s (4 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG calls, Button folds, Hero calls.
Turn: (5.50 BB) 5d (3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG calls, Hero calls.
River: (8.50 BB) Jh (3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG folds, Hero calls.
Results:
BB has Ah Kd (straight, ace high).
Hero has Jc 9s (one pair, jacks).
Hand 4: Here's another example. The preflop raiser is known to be aggro preflop, but somewhat weak postflop when someone else has the lead (however, he's willing to bet out and bluff if checked to). I should have folded on the flop without having at least a backdoor flush draw. After spewing on the flop and turn, the river was an easy check-fold.
Preflop: Hero is SB with 9d, Jd.
1 fold, MP raises, CO calls, Button calls, Hero calls, BB calls.
Flop: (10 SB) 2c, Jc, 6h (5 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, MP raises, CO folds, Button folds, Hero 3-bets, BB calls, MP calls.
Turn: (9.50 BB) As (3 players)
SB bets, BB calls, MP calls.
River: (12.50 BB) 6c (3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, MP calls, Hero folds.
Results:
BB has 3c Ac (flush, ace high).
MP has Kh Kc (two pair, kings and sixes).
